99-cent pirate violation (and contest!)

August 30th, 2009

This one is disturbing on so many levels that I’ve decided to have a contest centered on it. Take a look:

Pirate Raider from the dollar store

I found this at the local less-than-a-dollar store, and it’s such a horrible violation that I think you need to see every last detail (click the picture to get a larger image). Someone clearly took an official Disney Pirates of the Caribbean toy and mutated it into this devilish monstrosity.

But it gets worse. Look at this detail:

Pirate toy photoshop tracks

You know what those funny patterns are? That’s right — Photoshop tracks! Not only did these vial ruffians tromp all over Disney’s copyright, they may have even used Adobe’s trademarked software to do it!! A double violation if I ever heard of one!

Which brings us to the contest I mentioned earlier. I think that these unnatural creations need to be removed from public view as quickly as possible before they harm unknowing innocents. Toward that goal, I ask you to visit your local 99-cent store and similar venue and look for these abominations. If you find them, buy as many as you can and mail them to me immediately (if you e-mail me at notalawyer (at) disneycopyrightviolations.com, I’ll happily send you my mailing address). I will find something appropriate to do with the beasts, and whomever sends me the most by the end of September will receive a unique, Disney-themed prize.

Thank you in advance for helping rid the world of the horror of Disney copyright violations!

Foreign Jack violation?

August 26th, 2009

Jack in "Engrish"

The “Engrish” Web site that posted this picture originally speculated that this might not be an official Disney product. No kidding. There is no official Disney film in which Jack Skellington juggles Ghost Rider’s skull. (Sigh.)

Tower of Terror violation?

August 23rd, 2009

Take a look at this building…

Tower of Terror (copy)

…And compare it to this one…

Tower of Terror (original)

Pretty similar, eh? In fact, as was pointed out in the always entertaining Scouting New York blog, pretty close to identical!!!

This is even worse than that castle in Dubai that looks just like Disneyland’s “it’s a small world,” or any of those Haunted Mansion clones that lazy architects have scattered throughout the southern United States. What’s next? Mountains that look like Big Thunder Mountain? Or is Mother Nature the only one respecting Disney’s intellectual property?

Seven violations?

August 21st, 2009

Snow White and the seven brutally murdered dwarfs

Not just a violation, but wrong — horribly, horribly wrong. This has scarred me all the way back to my childhood. You might say that this is a desecration of a copyrighted item as opposed to a pirating or illegal duplication of one, but I think that we can all agree that if the law does not currently consider this type of abuse intensely illegal, it should. It’s an anti-Disney hate crime, pure and simple — like burning a Dreamworks logo on Roy Disney’s lawn.

You can find similar cruelty on the original Web site, but I don’t know why you’d want to.

Now if you’ll pardon me, I have to go have my memory bleached.

Nature violation

August 18th, 2009

Some days, just when you thing all is right with the world, you find something like this…

2009-0816 water drop

Even Mother Nature herself does not respect our beloved Disney’s trademarks!

The original evidence of MN’s disdain can be found on Flickr.

Castle cake violation?

August 18th, 2009

Is Cinderella’s castle shiny? No.
Is it gated? No.
Is it made of cake? No.

Violation!!!

2008-0816 Cake Wrecks

Seriously — if someone tries to charge you money to visit this castle, don’t pay them a cent! It’s not the official building at all, but a confectionery duplicate, possibly filled with child-eating witches (as so many candy buildings are these days, or so we hear).

You can find more details on this atrocity on the Cake Wrecks blog.

Stormtrooper violation

August 16th, 2009

2009-0816 Stormtroopers

I understand why Imperial stormtroopers might want to poke fun at Princess Leia — I really do! — but that’s a pair of bootleg mouse ears on their table! How do I know? Because that particular model of mouse ear was not available a long time ago, and certainly isn’t licensed for sale in a galaxy far, far away! The shame!

Here’s where I found these ruffians.
